Silveira v. Bayfront HMA Medical Center, et al.

SETTLED

Trial
02/21/24 – 02/22/24

Summary

In this medical malpractice case, Maria Silveira died after a bowel was perforated during a hysterectomy. This perforated bowel led to sepsis setting in and Ms. Silveira's eventual passing.

Plaintiff Claudio Silveira, Ms. Silveira's husband, claims that staff at the hospital failed to detect and treat Ms. Silveira's condition appropriately. Test results and other warning signs were ignored by nurses. He argues that these signs, if relayed to a treating physician, may have saved her life.

Defendant Bayfront Health disputes these claims, stating that nurses properly recorded medical information and communicated with treating physicians.
