FL Health Sciences Center, et al. v. CVS, et al.

MISTRIAL

Trial
09/18/25 – 12/08/25

Summary

In this opioid trial, a collection of hospitals sue pharmacy chains CVS, Walmart, and Walgreens, claiming that they violated Florida's RICO statute. The hospitals assert that these chains collaborated to prevent regulation of opioids. This collaboration, in addition to policies rewarding rapid fulfillment speed, led to the opioid epidemic spreading across the state.

The pharmacies argue that there is no evidence the retailers colluded to push drugs into the market. Counsel for the companies claim that the hospitals need to prove that the pharmacies acted as criminal drug dealers, and that there were policies for pharmacists to alert when illegitimate prescriptions were suspected.
