Carey v. Gupta

VERDICT

Trial
04/29/25 – 05/09/25

Summary

In this car crash trial, Charles and Deborah Carey were stopped at a red light in a left turn lane when defendant Sanjeet Gupta struck their car. Before hitting the Careys' car, Gupta collided with a vehicle driven by Peter LaFroscia. The Careys and LaFroscia sue Gupta, claiming that his speeding caused the accident.

Plaintiffs allege that eyewitnesses and electronic data confirm that Gupta was driving 10 miles per hour over the speed limit. This, they argue, caused the crash and forced the Careys to have multiple serious spinal surgeries while aggravating LaFroscia's pre-existing conditions.

While Gupta admits to speeding, he asserts that LaFroscia cut him off. Attorneys for Gupta argue that the evidence shows LaFroscia swerving across lanes of traffic and immediately hitting the brakes, which they say would have caused an accident even if Gupta had been driving at the speed limit.
